An untapped goldmine for customer research

They say silver bullets don’t exist, but I found one.

We recently analyzed 51 IT Manager job descriptions on LinkedIn.

We wanted to know what to expect if you’re looking for a new role as an IT Manager or want to hire one.
  • What salary is the market rate?
  • What skills do companies actually want from an IT Manager?
  • What responsibilities will they own?
Here’s everything we learned.

Marketers will tell you that these research-backed articles are great for getting backlinks and bringing relevant people to your website.

But that’s not why we did it.

There’s a goldmine of customer learnings in job descriptions.

A few of the nuggets we learned are that IT Manager remote roles are less common than you’d think, cybersecurity and compliance responsibilities are vital to the role, and experience with the Microsoft ecosystem is more in demand than Google Workspace experience.

Every product team can benefit from this type of research. Sounds easy and boring.

But, it’s a silver bullet you can use to understand the needs of your potential customers very quickly.

Happy researching!

Hiten =)
