Yes, there are a lot of factors to decrease abandoned carts, such as shipping etc., but for this series, we're going to focus on adding social proof right on the cart page.

Note that your cart page will see their items and will not be displayed beyond this point – the checkout page.

Remember a rule of thumb; people trust people; they don't trust companies.

That's why influencer marketing does so well.
​

88% of people trust online reviews, so it can serve as powerful social proof to have it right on your cart to either remove any doubt or to reinforce their decision– note these are actually two different thoughts.

Here are some stats to keep in mind:

Increasing review volume leads to higher conversion rates – even at high volume levels: 50 or more reviews per product can mean a 4.6% increase in conversion rates.

• Fresh, product-specific review content drives search traffic and keyword rankings, specifically when a business earns 10 or more reviews –– resulting in 15-20% increase in search traffic.

• 3- and 4-star reviews contain 2x as many product suggestions as others –– informing brands of products that work and which do not.
  ​

So how should you structure your testimonials?

Here's a breakdown to try as a benchmark then optimise.

Aim to have at least 3 different testimonials on your cart page, ones that people can relate to for that specific product in their cart. You can recycle the same testimonials if it is not about the product.
​

Even old testimonials work, as long as they are relevant and authentic. If you need to gather some, use software like Yopto to gather reviews and create incentives.
​

Testimonial tip #1 - Emotional

Have the testimonial be relevant to your client's emotions- regardless of whether they are desires (gain pleasure) or fears (avoid pain). For example, what was life like before the product (problem), and why is life better after the product (solution). Keep it short and visually emphasize the relevant text by bolding the relevant words to solve the issue of people scanning.

Testimonial tip #2- Proof on proof

Ok, words are great, but pictures are better. If you include a picture of the person giving you a testimonial, people will be less skeptical. Showing a human face adds credibility and lots of it.

Testimonial Tip #3- Relatable

Nothing sells a story more than being able to relate to the 'main character,' and that's how you need to treat your testimonials. People need to relate to the person representing the product, your customers.

With the rise of influencers and stars from platforms like TikTok, we’ve been witnessing a shift in the industry, particularly when it comes to how to become ‘famous.’
​

Research backs this theory up with a new study claiming that user-generated content on platforms like TikTok and YouTube are being watched almost as much as traditional T.V. in America (wonder how t.v. stocks are doing).
​

It’s a thin line between reality and fiction, it seems.
​

It turns out those 13 years of age and older spent 18% of their time watching traditional T.V. programs and 16% of their time a week watching user-generated content.
​

It’s mainly teens aged 13-17 that spend more time with UGC- about 56% of their media time- vs. 22% among consumers 55 years and older.
​

It seems like the trend is not good news for traditional media, but we’re not entirely sure if that has been a surprise to anyone. Most believe it was never about a matter of ‘if’ but a matter of ‘when,’ and it seems like we’re witnessing that soon-to-be transition.

Turns out people are interested in other people.

No word on how cat videos are performing.

From a marketing perspective, you should always be keeping an eye out for talent that aligns with your niche, particularly rising talent. Making a deal with creators in your niche can prove to have a great payoff.
