Let’s dive in! 🥑 Health🫀 More Notes on HRVI’m currently experimenting with ways to improve my heart rate variability (HRV). I already mentioned this in TLG 84 and thought it was the moment to revisit this topic as Peter Attia recently published an AMA on the subject (🔒). Here are a few notes:
You are fit but have low HRV. Before blaming genetics:
1. Rule out saturation, medication, health conditions
2. Are you high strung/easily stressed/agitated/anxious?
3. Can lifestyle (diet, sleep, social) be improved?
4. Are you overdoing it somehow (training, work)? 🌱 Wellness🔗 Moving in Sync Creates Surprising Social Bonds among PeopleWondering why you like dancing or group sports? Part of the answer might be because moving in sync with other people creates social bonds.
Remember this scene from Avatar? 🧠 Better Thinking🏆 WantingAfter seeing the book everywhere, I picked up Wanting, a book about… you guessed it: mimetic desire! It’s a short, clear, and very good explanation of these ideas that are harder to understand in their original format in the books of René Girard. Here are some notes on the book:
As a personal experiment, I deleted Instagram a month ago and noticed significantly less desire to consume stuff and even less desire to travel. I’ve just been more satisfied with where I’m at and with what I have. Dry January feels great:
- No alcohol
- Deleted Instagram
RHR down, HRV up and sleep improved. Physical and mental performance are better. Less stressed.
