OPPORTUNITY #1: A No-Code Discord bot builder

Level 2 - Indie Hacker
Discord has moved from a niche gaming platform for hardcore gamers to a Slack alternative for groups and communities.

In 2020, Discord raised an additional $100M in funding to make changes and add new features for its wide variety of communities: campus communities, gaming groups, NFT communities, and general hangouts. [1] [2]

These new features are designed to create appeal for a community of users beyond its core group of gamers. However, it’s still experiencing some growing pains in this transition to a larger marketplace.

One interesting growing pain during as Discord moves to a larger audience is in Discord's automation platform, which allows users who know how to code to build automated bots.

These bots can help automate common tasks, connect to external APIs to provide information to users in a given Discord server, and even play text-based games directly within Discord itself! In this issue, we'll be looking at how we can enable non-technical users to design and build Discord bots by building a No-Code platform for easily designing, developing, and hosting Discord bots.

We'll look at the competitors in the Discord bot market and the No-Code market, look at the key features that will make this solution unique from similar competitors, and even share a bonus opportunity to turn this micro-SaaS into a more ambitious project.

The ideal founder for this project is someone who is engaged in Discord’s culture, and who wants to build a solution to help its communities grow. It’s also a solid opportunity for someone who wants to back the no-code movement, and open up bot building to a more diverse community!

OPPORTUNITY #2: A team-focused pulse survey tool

Level 1 - Micro-SaaS
The “Great Resignation” of 2021 has seen a record number of American workers leave their jobs after hanging on over the course of the pandemic. In turn, this has resulted in a massive shift among employers towards keeping employees happy. [3]

One major reason for this is that people are more open to considering new career possibilities after having had their lives shaken up by the pandemic. [4]

LinkedIn COO Dan Shapero refers to it as “The Great Reshuffle,” with both leadership and employees rethinking the way we work. [5]

With this trend currently sending companies into a panic across several industries, McKinsey suggests that employers should respond to this mass exodus by providing a better employee experience, to reduce churn and attract new talent. [6]

The easiest and most popular way for employers to monitor their employee experience? Pulse surveys.

Pulse surveys are a feature of employee engagement software, a market expected to reach $1.9B by 2027. [7] And, according to the State of Workplace Tech report by Teem, employee experience software was a key technology driver among IT and workplace decision-makers in 2021:
In this issue, we'll look at some of the major faces in the employee engagement software market such as Culture Amp, WorkTango, and LinkedIn Glint in order to discover why both investors and customers are flooding into this relatively new software market, before looking at our down-market opportunity: combining the power of pulse surveys with team-level engagement metrics that helps companies understand their employee's happiness in ways they've never been able to before!

This tool focuses on providing insights to middle-managers and team leaders, something that most employee engagement tools aren't designed to do. By focusing on the team level instead of the entire organization or large departments, we can surface valuable insights to identify when teams are experiencing issues that don't translate across departments or organizations.

In the full newsletter, we cover the key features needed for the MVP, three great marketing channels for this opportunity, and one "growth hack" marketing approach for growing this product.

If you're looking for to build a company that puts a new spin on a trendy and in-demand software market, this is a great one for you!
