One Person Business - One Person Business #13: Park.io
As a side project, I’m developing Substack Tools, a tool suite for both readers and writers that use Substack. Check it out, let me know what you think 🙂 Park.io is a domain backordering service, specifically "hacker-type" domains (e.g. .io, .ly, .me, etc), created by Mike Carson. So, what is domain backordering? A domain backorder is a service that helps you attempt to acquire a domain when it becomes available for registration. You can think of backorder like putting a reservation on a domain — you put your name on a list and when the domain expires, you'll get a chance to register it before anyone else. Park.io does a bit of a variation of this, and focus on a sort of an arbitrage. It automatically scans domains that are close to experying, and tracks them. When the day comes, it buys the domain and then resells it on the website. Mike got the idea to develop this service after he failed to buy a domain he really wanted. Even though he was tracking the domain expiration, he still missed it for about a minute or so. He then started researching the whole space, eventually developing, as a hobby, the basis for what Park.io would become. So, how much money did he make with this initially? And how much revenue is the business generating right now? Well, let’s see:
Neat numbers, right? I know. Looking to get into the arbitrage space? There’s a whole world out there to explore, and plenty of opportunities if you find the right fit. Although this sort of business model might be a bit heavier on the human side than a full digital business, it can still be very profitable if done correctly. Here is something to get you started. Your opinion means a lot to me: Awesome | Liked | 50/50 | Meh | Terrible Let me know what you think about this post, and what you’d be most interested in reading about - leave a comment and share your thoughts, I’ll 100% reply!
