This is a cool ad from 1974 showing the affordability of a Triumph Spitfire sports car vs other luxury brands.

I love how they “fill in” the drawings with real photos to show what you get.

Thought:

You might remember that weird sound dial-up modems made from back in the day, that unmistakable "EEhhhhhh awwwwwwwooooo BHSSSHHHHH"

Well it turns out that's just your modem and the server talking to each other in what's called a "handshake."

This is the order of a "Dial Up Handshake"

You might remember about 15 seconds into the sequence it starts making a chaotic hissing....that's where it would start transmitting more information over the phone line, sounding to humans like hissing noise.

It's wild to think this sound was two machines physically talking to each other!

Now most of that "talking" is done 100% digitally over airwaves or light signals, so they no longer make that weird noise.

Also the speed which a "handshake" now occurs is milliseconds rather than 20 seconds.

Uplifting:

2 years ago I wanted to learn to type faster. I typed between 60 and 70 Words Per Minute (WPM), and I have a bad habit of "chicken peck typing" with two fingers:

The process I used to type faster was this:​
​• 15 Minutes Per Day: RataType (teaches proper way to hit each key).
​• 4 Minutes Per Day: KeyBr (shows which keys you hit wrong).
​• 1 Minute Per Day: 10FastFingers (to test speed each day).

After doing this for around ~2 months, I never fully broke my habit of "chicken pecking" but I DID start tying in a new hybrid form of typing where I average over 80 WPM now!

Over the weekend my brother got married, and I played a song while he and the wedding procession walked down the aisle.

I played "Wagon Wheel" by Old Crow Medicine Show which is a classic song a lot of people know:

It went off great, and was a cool little moment where I played my brother down the aisle!

Interesting:

Look at this spread at the Chinese Tea Ceremony part of my brothers wedding: A "Filipino Kamayan Feast" !

It's basically a communal style feast where they lay out all the food on banana leaves and you just pick-n-grab whatever you want.

It was mainly meat and fruit, so it was really healthy, but it also just looked cool as hell, and was very fun to eat from!

It feels like this would be awesome to have at a party:
