TODAYS COMMENTARY Get a Cup of Coffee & Enjoy Catching Up!

BUY LIST UPDATE: The DOW is down -10% YTD. The S&P is down -13% YTD. NASDAQ is down -21% YTD. The StockTips BUY LIST, despite all companies profiting well & at a value is down -14.5%. I got to say, given that the majority of the companies on the BUY LIST are NASDAQ, I’m fairly satisfied with the performance. Particularly when I consider the increased value as a result of the bear market. Sure, it looks bad on the chart in the paid section below, but no one, including me, invests that way. We buy in small, & average down little by little (selling calls against the underlying & collecting dividends). There are certainly a bunch of formally popular tech stocks out there that are down much lower, which is why I avoided them. Seeing as the average forward PE is 8%, the average PS is 0.73, the average PEG is 0.62, the average PB is 1.42, the average current ratio is 2.62, the average debt/equity is 0.62, all with an average of 88.47% Institutional+Insider investment, the list is still good & I’m hesitant to give up on anything just yet. Certainly the market is such that we are just going to need to wait for valuations to catch up, & inflation to do its thing. However I also don’t want to remove solid picks from the BUY LIST as these entry prices.

Todays Market Observations:

• If you did not read the MARKET OBSERVATIONS in yesterdays newsletter, I suggest you do so. They’re still relevant but I don’t want to hash out the same info every day.

• PPI Reported Today: The Producers Price Index (PPI) is going to be reported an hour after publication of this newsletter (8:30AM ET). It’s not going to be good folks! The Producer Price Index measures the average change over time in the selling prices received by domestic producers for their output. Last month the PPI MoM hit an all time high. Previous was 1% & this months consensus is 0.9%. I would be surprised at anything below 1.1% but I wont rule it out.

• China Markets: There are lots of reports that the Chinese are open to supplying aid to the Russians, whether it be financial or military is in the air. Of course, China denies they will provide military aid, but they are also adamant that they continue to have good trade relations with Russia … which WILL draw some ire from the United States. Indeed the US has warned China not to help the Russians & China has warned the US not to sanction them over their relationship with Russia. The talks in Rome revealed that China is blaming the US for Ukraine, & to make matters worse, China has been slammed by a massive covid outbreak & lock down. As a result Chinese markets & stocks are dumping hard! Particularly in the Chinese tech sector. Investment strategist are throwing around words like “un-investable.” ARENT YOU GLAD I TOLD YOU FROM DAY ONE OF THIS NEWSLETTER TO STAY AWAY FROM CHINA!

• Russian Markets: The Russian markets have been shut down for a couple of weeks now. Money is locked up & options are expiring in the money, but worthless because no one is exchanging anything. Now … I want you to read me clearly here. THERE WILL BE SOME FALLOUT IN THE US FROM RUSSIAN MARKETS! I am certain there are some US banks that backed margin on US, Russian, & Chinese firms, both whom were long & short Russian equities. Worse still, there is VERY SOLID indication that Russia, in retaliation for sanctions, will seize assets owned by US companies/banks/firms. Just as the US & NATO are seizing the assets of oligarchs, Russia will likely seize the property & investments of US firms. The effects of these phenomena will not be fully understood until next quarterly earnings. But I assure you it won’t be good. We will likely also see bloc sales from some banking firms in an attempt to recover assets backed by margin. Only God knows how many margin calls are going to hit when Russian markets reopen.

• Its a great time to have a solid bit of cash in your portfolio! This correction will rebound over time … perhaps more time than you might imagine … but buying in slowly is warranted here. And by “slowly” I don’t mean a few percentage points in the red, & I don’t mean averaging down in a few days, but when you’re down double digits & over a matter of weeks/months. Margin? Stay the hell away from it unless you buy insurance (options). Avoid as much risk as possible while maintaining some exposure in the markets in case the market finally determines its oversold.
