You’re a media company now (and HubSpot’s asymmetric bet).

Friyay! 🙌🏼

Another busy week in the books, fam. Hope it was a good one for you and the 525+ new readers this week.

New Podcast Episode

You’re busy, I get it. So here’s some highlights to help you skip around to the good stuff…

(4:00) - The easiest way to understand today’s macro issues. And what it means for fundraising, valuations and exits over the next 1-2 years.

(8:30) - There will be 4 Billion people on crypto by 2030. 🤯

(12:20) - Dan Price is the Everyman’s CEO. Take his advice with a grain of salt: it’s primarily recruiting fodder.

(15:00) - The future of work and a couple of uncomfortable topics not often discussed publicly.

(22:00) - The slippery slope that comes with managing teams.

(24:40) - The other side of remote work for employers and employees.

(27:45) - The challenge of managing culture in hybrid situations.

Grab it on Apple Podcasts, Spotify Podcasts or Google Podcasts -- and let me know what you think! 🙏🏼

HubSpot Creators

Hubspot launched something new this week.

It didn’t seem to get much coverage within the typical tech circles… but it’s been the #1 strategy conversation amongst C-levels leading companies with $10M+ annual revenues.

To keep this email short, I’ll just list two reasons you should be watching this…

First: About 15 years ago, there were only 1-2 startup accelerators. Today there are hundreds and hundreds globally… but the best dealflow still goes to those early ones. Hubspot Creators could be the YC or 500 in this space.

And second: Almost a year past iOS 14 and ATT, everyone’s shifting Paid budgets to other platforms (read: TikTok, mostly) in search of better CAC. HubSpot Creators is the perfect asymmetric bet: if it kinda works… HubSpot will own its own content creation team.

And if it really works… they can sell excess ad inventory to other B2B companies that want access to those listeners.

It’s that last bit that’s being discussed quietly amongst C-levels across my portfolio.

Whether you’re DTC, B2B or anything else in-between… if your buyer is a human, consider this: you’re a media company that happens to sell whatever it is that you sell.

Building in Public: North Star

The next version is now available: North Star.

If you use Google Analytics or Amazon Seller Central, it’s ready for you now.

The promise is simple: connect your account, your key metrics will always be available at a glance… on your phone… on your desktop. And soon, on every new tab… or wherever else you need it to be. (It’s free, btw.)

Shopify, Etsy, Klaviyo, Transistor.fm, Simplecast and a bunch of other platforms will get quietly activated over the next few weeks.

But maybe a little context is helpful…

You and I don’t need another metrics dashboard. We’ve all got plenty of those.

The problem, however, is that most of the time… I just need to glance at the numbers a few times a day in-between a million other things.

And I don’t want to open Google Analytics… and Amazon Seller Central… and Klaviyo… and Convertkit… and Simplecast.

See where I’m going with this?

As of right now, ~11,000 other people do… because they’re using North Star multiple times a day.

(If you’re curious, the latest number is always available on North Star and it’s refreshed every 5 minutes )

So, I hope you’ll check it out and find it useful. If it’s missing a platform you’d like to see, let me know.

Here’s that link one more time: North Star.

That’s it. That’s the email for today. As always, hit reply any time -- I read every response. See ya next week! 👋🏻
