The Husk By Jasmine Stole Weiss - 5 things to know about Mixed Blessings
This week’s Micronesian Monday Feature is about the clothing brand Mixed Blessings. 1. They’re a street style brandBased in Hawaii, Mixed Blessings as a brand has amassed quite the following online. Over 2,200 people follow the brand on Facebook and they have another 1,200-plus followers on Instagram. Customers have their choice of Mixed Blessings beanies and snapbacks, t-shirts and hoodies, and more. Their designs feature sharp lines and gritty-yet-whimsical graphics evocative of street art. 2. Mixed Blessings launched in April 2019The owners say it took a whole year before they saw their first product launch. In April 2019 Mixed Blessings debuted t-shirts that included the logo emblazoned on the front. 3. The two owners are from PohnpeiThe pair manage to run the business while one is in Pohnpei and one is in Hawai’i. While the owners were gracious enough to share how their brand came to be, they also opted not to publicize their names. 4. They’re looking to stand out among the growing number of Micronesian brands“We are aiming for a different crowd, we are a street apparel brand, we are most exposed to that life than drawing island tribals. It’s just the way we grew up in our towns back in Pohnpei,” the owners said. 5. Family comes firstThe main thing that drives the Mixed Blessing founders is their family. Both owners have children and they’re working on this passion while keeping their kids in mind. “We hope this goes big time. As a Micronesian, we come from a place almost all of the world doesn’t know about, so we limit ourselves, forget the big leagues. But not us. We wanna take this as far as we can go so that younger generations can see that we also can be creators.” Well said. I appreciate the approach Mixed Blessings has taken with their clothing designs. To me, they have a clear demographic in mind and they’re really honing in on that aesthetic. One last quote from Mixed Blessings:
I want to thank Mixed Blessings for their time but also for creating what they felt called to create. When they said they want to take this as far as they can go, I felt that.
