New Old Age - Coffee is good
Not only is coffee the most popular mood-enhancer in the world, it’s also good for your health. Drinking coffee has been linked to a reduced risk of all kinds of ailments, including Parkinson’s disease, melanoma, and prostate cancer. Caffeine is one of more than a thousand chemicals in coffee. Among others with positive effects are polyphenols and antioxidants. Polyphenols can inhibit the growth of cancer cells and lower the risk of Type 2 diabetes. Antioxidants have anti-inflammatory effects and can counter both heart disease and cancer, the nation’s leading killers. In a study of more than two-hundred-thousand participants over thirty years, those who drank three to five cups of coffee a day, with or without caffeine, were fifteen percent less likely to die early than people who shunned coffee. Even more dramatic was a fifty percent reduction in the risk of suicide among both men and women who were moderate coffee drinkers. Whoa! All that from the humble coffee bean roasted, ground and brewed to taste and enjoyed throughout the day. Seriously, who the hell wants to die early when all you have to do is drink good coffee.
