One Person Business - One Person Business: Farts in a jar
Before we start, just wanted to take some time to bring up The Sample. A great way to get curated content from blogs and newsletters Stephanie Matto, a YouTuber turned adult content creator, made upwards of $200,000 selling her farts in jars. Are you rethinking your life choices? I know. This might seem like a ridiculous example, but it proves a point: you can sell anything on the Internet. Just find the right niche. Easier said than done, I know. But the statement stands. Steph already had a good following on social media, and that definitely helps (as with anything). But still, this is quite insane. If someone told you “I’m gonna sell my farts and make some money”, you’d probably laugh it off and call them crazy. But she did just that. Taunted by a lot of requests from guys saying that they just wanted to inhale her farts, she bit the bullet and decided to go with that. For shits and giggles mostly. And, to her surprise, they bought the farts. When it comes to the economics of it, she decided to price the jars at $1,000. Without a point of reference to really find a reasonable price, it wasn’t easy to decide on it. But people were willing to pay such a high amount, and she was happy to charge that. Although, when she started, given it was around the holidays, she did offer a 50% discount on them. Regarding margins, I bet you can guess it was pretty damn profitable. On her first shipment, she sold $50,000 worth of jars and reached a net profit of $45,000. But it’s not all sunshine and rainbows. A week before Christmas, and after pushing herself to fulfil a lot of orders, Steph wasn’t feeling so well and ended up in the hospital. After some tests, the doctors concluded that she had really bad gas pain. As with everything, taking things too far can have some really bad results. She then decided to pivot to NFT Fart Jars. Much safer, and much more scalable that’s for sure. Upon being asked what’s the right starting tool kit for an aspiring entrepreneur, she answered:
