Take what you need, leave what you don’t

The past few weeks have been … not great. And that’s putting it lightly. So if your headspace has also been not great, we’re right there with ya.

But here at Ellevest, we’re big believers in the power of doing something about it. That doesn’t just apply to your mental health, either (although it is Mental Health Awareness Month). We’ve found that the top driver of women’s financial confidence is taking action — saving and investing, yes, but also (we’re willing to bet, at least) taking meaningful action, to address what’s getting you down.

That said, we know we’re all different, with the news and everything else hitting each of us in different ways. So we figured, this should be a choose-your-own-pick-me-up-type week. We’ve collected a bunch of resources that have been popular with the Ellevest community lately and organized them based on what you might need, whether that’s a bit of good news, a how-to on setting boundaries at work, a big-picture look at the numbers, or a guide to overhauling how you spend.

Take what moves you (or don’t!) and above all: Just be kind to yourself right now. This uphill battle rages on (and on, and on), but we’re still here for you.

You don’t have to have a lot of time (or money!) to do something about financial stress; even the smallest actions can boost feelings of control. Here are 15 different ideas to start with.

What is even happening right now?

Our fearless leader, Sallie Krawcheck, spoke to Forbes about our recent $53 million Series B funding — and got serious about what it takes for women founders to get there.

Awards season is still going strong: L Morgan Lee became the first-ever openly trans performer to be nominated for a Tony award, and enthusiastic foraging TikTokker Alexis Nikole Nelson (aka @blackforager) scored a James Beard nomination!

“People have seen [the Great Resignation] as a rejection of work, but I’ve seen it as people capitalizing on an abundance of job opportunities.”

The median age for giving birth in the US is now 30 years old. (Now, could someone please tell our moms that?)

And finally, a couple of important recent stats to keep on hand: More than two-thirds of the country is against anti-trans legislation, and 61% of Americans believe abortion should be legal. Translation: We’re not just not alone — we’re still the majority.

Make progress toward your money goals.
