Become the best-articulated version of yourself.

Nikos Koulis is a world-famous jewelry designer. When he got started, he was like most others in his field - one out of thousands of excellent craftsmen that nobody knew about.

Like many other artists, he was searching for himself and his big idea, until he landed on black enamel.

It took him years of experimentation, searching, and then landing on something that was the best expression of him. He wasn't looking for "what people want to buy", but what's the best-articulated version of himself.

It took many more years until the world noticed him, and now he's all the rage.

There's a difference between "making it" and "becoming". Often you need to "become" before you can "make it".

Folks talk about "becoming your best self" and I'm all for giving your best at all times, but I find the idea too vague.

I much better like this idea: your best-articulated version of yourself.

What do you stand for? What's your point of view? How well can you articulate that in a passionate matter?

Folks who are able to do that become leaders (meaning they attract followers).

We can observe Gary Vaynerchuk's journey from the wine guy to what he is today as one example. Or in B2B, I think Chris Walker is a great example. It's not that he wasn't great before founding Refine Labs, but he came to his best-articulated version of himself.

Spend time searching for your point of view, write a manifesto if you will. Don't need to publish it. Set your sights on "becoming" before "making it".
