A love letter to Mitski (but not in a creepy way)

Hello friend,

How's it going? It feels like that pre-festival buzz is upon us and with Primavera just around the corner and Glastonbury less than a month away, the excitement/anxiety is starting to kick in. Do we still have the stamina for three days of bouncing around? Will we remember how to drink cider all day without resembling Worzel Gummidge by 4pm? If you missed out on some of the biggest ticket events of the summer, do not fear, here are some bloody brilliant UK festivals that – at the time of writing – still had tickets available.

Elsewhere in the world, we were blessed to see Mitski perform in Istanbul last week. It was an emotional night. Much has been said about the intensity of her fanbase – her young fans often using her as a channel for all their teenage angst. We don't doubt, that must be a lot for an artist to handle. But in the crowd, watching Istanbul's teens sing along to every word, chanting the comically Manc-sounding "Mits-keh, Mitsk-eh" at every lull, waving rainbow flags and anime characters on their phones, it struck us how much more positive a role model a multi-faceted artist like Mitski is than the teen idols of the past. Whether we've TikTok to thank or Mitski herself, it doesn't seem important: it was incredibly heartwarming to see teenage girls, accompanied by their mothers, going absolutely Stantastic for an intelligent, complex woman in her thirties. Oh and her dance moves were delightfully on point, as ever.

ABBATARS, ASSEMBLE
Who knew making ginormous digital versions of ABBA would be a good idea? We sent Emma Holbrook down to the first night of ABBA Voyage: the band's first concert in 40 years which saw Benny, Björn, Agnetha and Frida perform as computerised versions of their eighties selves. Here's what she thought.
