The Forty-Five - Chill out, what ya yelling for?

Hello friend,

Feliz Navidad! Hopefully you're gorging on stilton and mulled wine by now. It's been listomania here over the last few weeks. Find out what we've voted to be the top albums and songs of the year, hopefully you'll find something you like. Our writers have been catching live shows while they're still happening – read allaboudit in our reviews of Willow in London and Adrienne Lenker and Chvrches in LA.

We're pretty pumped to announce that the one and only Avril Lavigne is our December Cover Star. In a year dominated by pop-punk and a wave of new-gen artists reinvigorating the genre, we felt it fitting to talk to the woman who kicked it all off. Photographer, Jenn Five, shot her in Toronto last week and the result is a thoroughly festive affair. Check it out, below!

For now, stay happy and healthy and see you on the other side ✌️
"I'M EXCITED TO BE 20 YEARS IN AND STILL ROCKING"
For two decades, Avril Lavigne has been one of only a handful of women in the pop-punk sphere. As the world falls back in love with the genre, Marianne Eloise meets the woman who has influenced a new generation of female rockers. Read our December Cover Story
OUR FAVOURITE ALBUMS OF 2021
We say it every year, but the last twelve months have been bloody great for albums! Here's what our esteemed voting panel of writers thought to be the 45 best records of the year.
THE MUSIC MOMENTS THAT SHOOK 2021
From Adele's iconic Instagram Live to Phoebe's guitar smash, these are the most memorable music moments of the year.
THE YEAR'S BEST SONGS
Which tracks have you had on repeat this year? Stuck to old favourites? Get some new goodies with our killer playlist of the best 45 songs of 2021.
DID 2021 KILL OFF THE SUPER-GLOSSY POPSTAR?
The year's biggest and boldest records have all been tethered to a vulnerable sense of self-disclosure. In a time of great upheaval, Jenessa Williams wonders whether being imperfect is the secret to pop success?
