📂 How Snappa gets hundreds of thousands of visitors a month

Today's newsletter is proudly supported by Agorapulse 🙌

You can tell a lot about a company based on its customer support practices. Zappos is famous for going to extremes for its customers, even ordering pizza at 11 p.m. for a caller. And Agorapulse is the Zappos of social media management platforms.

Did you know they have the #1 rated customer support on G2, Capterra, and TrustRadius? With other platforms you could wait 12 hours for a response; with Agorapulse, the average wait is just 30 minutes! If the customer support is that good, then you know the product is absolutely killer. Create a free account and see how Agorapulse can help you grow your following today.

I've spoken about Canva's killer SEO strategy before.

What you might not know is that one of their direct competitors, a bootstrapped company called Snappa, is also absolutely slaying with SEO as well.

Here's what Christopher said:

SEO takes time to pay off so don’t expect results immediately. That being said, if you do things right, you should be able to start seeing results within the first 2 - 3 months.
When you’re just starting out and you have very low domain authority, I strongly suggest focusing all your efforts on 1 - 3 key pieces of content rather than publishing a bunch of blog posts and hoping for the best.
It’s much better to have 1 piece of content that ranks at the top of Google than it is to have a whole bunch of blog posts that bring in no traffic whatsoever.
In terms of what to focus on for these pieces of content, I suggest focusing on the bottom of the funnel. Ie, if someone lands on this blog post, would they likely be interested in trying out your product or service?
Aim for keywords with high search volume (relative to your lifetime value) and low enough competition. Also make sure that your content is significantly better than what’s currently ranking.
In the beginning, you’ll need to spend a decent amount of time promoting your content and building backlinks. You’ll likely need to spend time doing some manual outreach and guest posting.
It’s also crucial that you start building an email list which will help tremendously as you scale your content efforts. Sending an email to your list is the best content promotion tactic there is.
Once you’ve successfully started ranking your 1 -3 key pieces of content and you’ve generated some backlinks, slowly start adding more pieces of content and repeating the same process.
As your domain authority increases and it becomes easier to rank for keywords naturally, start increasing the publishing frequency. At this point, you’ll find that you can start ranking for keywords simply by emailing your list and doing some very basic content promotion.
In addition to blog posts, start creating landing pages targeting specific features and use cases of your product or service. As you continue to create new content and landing pages, make sure that everything is interlinked properly to ensure maximum crawlability.

If we take a look under the hood, here's how Snappa is actually making SEO work for them.

Snappa has grown an amazing backlink profile of 293k+ and a domain rating of 78. Of course it wasn't always that strong, but this is what success looks like.

If we look at their top pages for organic search, you can see that they're ranking highly for keywords (1) directly related to their product and (2) with huge search traffic.

This is just the top of the list.

You can also see that there are a couple of core subfolders: /blog, /create, and /templates.
