Interesting story on the use of job advertising as a ruse to collect personal bank details from ‘successful’ job applicants. It’s a pretty crude scam but not implausible that some might fall for it. Facilitated by remote, fraud of this type is likely to continue to grow in scale and sophistication. HN as ever with more stories of recruiter scams

One of the only ways to search video is to first transcribe the audio file and then search that. This is an interesting looking aggregator which makes such an attempt, the results look dependent on tagging (which can be easily gamed) but there could be something there. This is post is both fascinating and educational for a form of work most of us don’t know too much about. I’m labelling it ‘blockchain’ because music might be one of the most appropriate verticals where this current structure gets disrupted by it. Comments start positively (EB win) but then negative comments start arriving, especially from ex-employees (EB loss). Let me preface this by saying that I think there are significant ethical problems with US military recruiting, especially in the targeting of the young and the poor. Highly paid people tend to see themselves as “normal” on the income scale – and “worse off” than their social circle.

Fascinating observation on the relative nature of wealth - it’s all about where you stand and who we hang around with. I suspect salary transparency / growth of compensation tech will go some way towards helping us better understand the (in)justice of our pay grade, but it might equally just increase our sense of entitlement.

Big Cities Saw Historic Population Losses

2 and a bit years into the pandemic era and we are beginning to see a clear picture on it’s impact on urban agglomeration. The ‘superstar’ cities of 2019 are no more, many of them suffering the largest fall in population in their recorded histories, whilst second tier cities seem to be growing, absorbing the outflow of talent. US data again but I suspect the pattern is repeated everywhere. Significant implications for hiring - take a read.
