The Forty-Five - Probably the best album of 2022

View this email in your browser
Hello,

How's everyone doing? This time of year is good isn't it because there's SO MUCH lovely, lovely new music to devour. Do you follow our Brand New playlist? You should. It's great and we update it every week. This week we've been jamming on that Rina Sawayama song (Frankenstein) that she made with Bloc Party's Matt Tong. It's a full-on indie banger. Oh and have you heard Ellie Bleach? Her song 'Tupperware Party' has been on repeat. Enjoy!

PS. This Matty Healy/Zane Lowe exchange made us chuckle.

Cover Story: Adventures In Sound
For our September Cover Story, Alison Craig met Jockstrap as they release 'I Love You Jennifer B' which is probably the year's best album. We made them do some awkward poses for this photoshoot with top snapper, Rosie Foster. They loved it.

Auckland's finest: an interview with The Beths
Are you a fan of jingly-jangly indie pop, 'cause we sure are. The Beths do this very, very well and new album 'Expert In A Dying Field' is a perfect example. Charlotte Krol had a chat with boss lady, Liz Stokes.
Get to know Pixey
Liverpool's Pixey is gearing up to release her eclectic mini-album 'Dreams, Pain and Paper Planes'. Rhian Daly quizzed her about its inception, touring with Alfie Templeman and how a near-death experience changed her outlook. Watch the video.
Stranger Than Fiction
On the surface, it seems like Stranger Things' Maya Hawke makes kinda twee folk-pop but dig a little deeper and it's clear she has a lot to say about womanhood and the sexualisation of young people. Cordelia Lam reviewed her new album, 'Moss' out on Friday and Charlie Gunn had a chat with her about the response to her very bold (and quite nudey) music video for single, 'Thérèse'.
Jessie is a Yessie
Jessie Reyez has toured with Billie Eilish, recorded with Beyoncé and yet for the first time, she's releasing an album in a world that isn't locked down. Celia Almeida meets the emotive pop star, regaining her momentum.
Midnights snack
It's not long until Taylor Swift releases her 10th album and Swifties are ever so hyped. Jenessa Williams digs into the fan theories, rumours and general internet chatter surrounding 'Midnights'

A plea! Support The Forty-Five by doing these things. It's really helpful!
