Adobe announced its purchase of Figma, a web-based collaborative graphics editing app, for $20 billion and there are some mixed reviews, at best.

But Adobe stands by this investment saying there are 3 key things critics aren't understanding:

1. Adobe XD just wasn't cutting it. One could argue that Adobe XD is Figma's competition however it's been more of a flop in the market than Adobe had hoped. It makes sense to invest in something with proven success than continuing to invest in a weak spot.

2. Adobe believes we're on the cusp of a new era of design online and instead of trying to retrofit its current offerings, why not rethink for the cloud era altogether and bring something totally different to their product suite?

3. They're stating that "Adobe and Figma today are not meaningful competitors," making the argument that the FTC shouldn't have an issue passing the deal because it won't disrupt healthy competition in the market.
