Why is Nancy Pelosi stepping down as the leader of the House Democrats?

Source: New York Times

  1. Summary
In a speech, speaker of the House of Representatives Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) said she would not seek another leadership term, though she will remain a representative. Majority Leader Steny H. Hoyer and Majority Whip James E. Clyburn, who together with Pelosi were part of the Democrats' leadership trifecta in the House for years, also said they would step down.

New York's Hakeem Jeffries, chairman of the House Democratic Caucus, is widely expected to succeed Pelosi. Hoyer, who once sought Pelosi's position, endorsed Jeffries. Assistant Speaker Katherine M. Clark is expected to run for minority whip, the No. 2 position this Congress when Democrats are in the minority. Fellow House Democrats say they expect Jeffries and Clark to run unchallenged.

Pelosi served as the Democrats' House leader for nearly 20 years. When she was elected speaker in 2018, she faced some resistance from the party's progressives, and promised to limit herself to two more terms. The Democratic Caucus is scheduled to hold leadership elections on Nov. 30.

Would you eat lab-grown meat over normal meat if it was similarly priced?

Context: FDA says Upside Foods' lab-grown chicken is safe to eat.

HIGHLIGHTED COMMENTS

No - Meat gains much of its flavor from what the animal eats and how it lives. Lab-grown "meat" cannot replicate this. [...] In the past, the FDA has approved many things that turned out to be harmful to people, and it wouldn't surprise me if there are yet unseen long-term negative health effects to lab-grown "meat".

Yes - A lot of people claim meat from animal agriculture is "cleaner". But unless you're very intentional about where your meat comes from, you're eating factory-farmed...

Unsure - It's the inevitable future of "meat." The price will continue to drop, to the point of being cheaper than slaughtering ani...
