What are the results of Georgia's runoff Senate election?

Source: GA Secretary of State

  1. Summary
Democratic Sen. Raphael Warnock defeated his Republican opponent Herschel Walker in Georgia's runoff election. Last month both candidates fell short of the 50% threshold needed for an outright win under Georgia law, though Warnock led Walker by under 37,000 votes (out of a total of 4 million). Warnock appeared to widen his margin Tuesday night. The result boosts the Democrats' Senate majority.

Walker, a former football star, was plagued by various scandals during the race. He portrayed Warnock as obedient to President Biden, who is unpopular in Georgia. Warnock distanced himself from Biden, campaigning publicly with former President Obama instead. Walker similarly avoided campaigning with former President Trump until the last day.

Warnock's win comes as Georgia has evolved into a battleground state. Biden became the first Democratic presidential candidate to win the state in three decades in 2020. Despite Warnock's Senate win, Republican Gov. Brian Kemp won reelection by a comfortable margin.

Should wedding service businesses be able to refuse same-sex couples as clients?

Context: Supreme Court case pits graphic designer against Colorado's anti-discrimination law.

HIGHLIGHTED COMMENTS

Yes - I voted yes, but it really depends. As a business owner I should be able to refuse service to anyone, I should also be able to give service to anyone that I want to. This is especially true when creative talent is involved. [...] The depends part is when it comes to standard business offerings (that are not customized or configured with artistic talent). There is a lot of gray area where a lot of businesses offer customized offerings. Some of these include lawyers, real estate agents, website designers. We should err on the side of free speech. It is a slippery slope to force whom you will do business with.
