Why did former Twitter officials testify before a House committee?

Source: Associated Press

  1. Summary
The House Oversight Committee held a six-hour hearing on Wednesday, in which GOP representatives accused former Twitter officials of colluding with the U.S. government to moderate content, in violation of the First Amendment. The lawmakers were citing the Twitter Files, internal documents released by new company owner Elon Musk that give insight into how Twitter moderates content.

According to the Twitter Files, government agencies would regularly flag alleged misinformation to Twitter. Twitter's 2020 decision to block sharing of the New York Post's story on Hunter Biden's laptop, due in part to an FBI warning, was a major focus. At the hearing, Twitter officials said the company made the wrong decision in hindsight, but vigorously denied that government agencies compelled them to remove content.

A former Twitter employee also testified to the committee that the Trump White House asked the company to remove a tweet from celebrity Chrissy Teigen insulting the president, which Twitter declined to do.

Would you be concerned if more companies reduce their climate goals?

366 votes, 41 comments

Context: BP lowers its emissions reduction target for the decade as reports record profit.

HIGHLIGHTED COMMENTS

Yes - BP is a huge company. Their reductions will have a huge impact on the incentive to produce carbon-free energy. I understand there is economic and political pressure to produce more oil and gas, but we need to be steadfast in our battle against global warming. The money used to produce more oil could be used to reduce the costs of nuclear, solar, wind, and other carbon-free energy sources.

No - What no one seems to realize is how little impact these commitments by international oil companies make. As an example, ExxonMobil produces only about 3% of total world hydrocarbo...

Unsure - Honestly it’s a concern but (and this is...
