How is the EPA trying to increase electric vehicle use?
Please click Display images in your email app to view this email properly

Source: Environmental Protection Agency

  1. Summary
The Environmental Protection Agency on Wednesday unveiled a proposal that will require carbon emissions from new cars and light trucks to fall by 49% on average from 2027 to 2032. The EPA says the rule could result in two-thirds of light vehicle sales being battery-powered by 2032. Transportation contributes to 27% of US greenhouse gas emissions, and the EPA says the rule would also reduce air pollution deaths.

Critics ask whether the US can build sufficient charging infrastructure, and worry it will increase dependence on Chinese minerals. The EPA said that as the rules would begin in 2027, there is time to secure a resilient mineral supply. Critics also worry EVs will remain costly despite a $7,500 federal tax credit. The EPA says EVs will save consumers money overall.

Federal spending laws are increasing EV-related investments, creating new jobs in red and purple states. But the United Auto Workers expressed concern that the plan could harm auto employment, as EVs have fewer components and therefore require fewer workers to manufacture.

Should the prosecution of Trump be subjected to congressional oversight?

575 votes, 73 comments

Context: Manhattan DA sues GOP Rep. for subpoena of former prosecutor.

HIGHLIGHTED COMMENTS

No - I fail to see the connection Congress has to this legal proceeding; Trump is currently a civilian. Furthermore, even if there was a place for Congress to be involved, it certainly shouldn't be under the purview of Jim Jordan or any other clearly politically-motivated individual from either party. If there are issues with the proceeding it will make its way through the appellate system, as it should.

Yes - Of course it should. I’m not a Trump fan but this is a first-ever and should be carefully exam...

Unsure - Since Trump's indictment is from the Manhattan jurisdiction and not federal, I would say that Congress should not be involved. And if the...
