Why is Manhattan DA Alvin Bragg suing Rep. Jim Jordan?

Source: Associated Press

  1. Summary
Manhattan DA Alvin Bragg, who charged former President Trump with 34 felonies, has sued GOP Rep. Jim Jordan, chair of the House Judiciary Committee. It comes after the Judiciary Committee issued a subpoena to a former Manhattan prosecutor who investigated Trump before Bragg. Bragg alleges that Jordan is interfering with the prosecution of Trump.

Bragg says that Congress does not have authority over the local investigation. The subpoena is "unprecedented, illegitimate interference by Congress that [...] defies basic principles of federalism," Bragg said. Jordan responded: "First they indict a president for no crime. Then they sue to block congressional oversight." Last week Jordan described Bragg's indictment as "unprecedented prosecutorial conduct."

The House Judiciary Committee will also hold hearings on crime in New York City, as some argue Bragg is pursuing Trump while neglecting his own area. Bragg's office countered that crime is declining in the city and that it is safer than major cities in Jordan's home state of Ohio.

HIGHLIGHTED COMMENTS

Yes - By relying on established franchises and familiar storylines, studios are playing it safe and avoiding the challenges of creating something new and innovative. This approach is particularly problematic because it is leading to a dearth of opportunities for new talent and ideas. Established franchises and big-name actors and directors are given priority over up-and-coming artists and innovative projects. This is not only unfair to new talent, but it also means that audiences are missing out on potentially groundbreaking films that could change the way we think about cinema.
