Source: Bloomberg

  1. Summary
Jordan Neely, a 30-year-old homeless man, died on a NYC subway after being put in a chokehold for several minutes by another passenger. Neely reportedly yelled and threw garbage at passengers before being subdued.

Juan Alberto Vázquez, a witness, claimed that Neely said "I don't have food. I don't have a drink. [...] I don't care if I go to jail, and if they give me life in prison … I am ready to die." Vázquez then recorded him. The footage showed Neely being choked by one man while another held him down, until he stopped moving. Vázquez told the New York Post that "None of us who were there" thought he might die.

The medical examiner ruled Neely's death a homicide. The young man who held Neely was questioned and released. Prosecutors are considering charges. Neely had been arrested at least 40 times before for assault, disorderly conduct, and fare evasion. Some locals reportedly were fond of him and his Michael Jackson impersonations. The city's comptroller said "NYC is not Gotham" and that vigilantism should not be allowed.

HIGHLIGHTED COMMENTS

Yes - It is illegal to provide pornographic material to minors in every state. [...] This is nothing new, alcohol, tobacco, and firearm companies have to comply with the same requirement of controlling their sales to individuals who are old enough to consume/purchase their products. While I understand the potential privacy issues of providing age verification (particularly photo IDs or IP verification) to adult websites, those concerns do not absolve them of the legal requirements prohibiting the consumption of pornographic material by minors.
