Why is Disney cancelling its planned campus in Florida?

Source: Yahoo! News

  1. Summary
Disney on Thursday announced it would cancel a planned $1 billion campus in Orlando's Lake Nona neighborhood. The company had said the campus would have created 2,000 jobs, relocated from California, with an average annual salary of $120,000.

The cancellation comes amid a feud between Disney and Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis, which began when Disney opposed a bill pushed by DeSantis. It has expanded to a dispute over the district that encompasses Disney World. Both Disney and DeSantis attributed the cancellation to changing business conditions. Disney executive Josh D’Amaro said the company still plans to invest $17 billion in Florida over the next 10 years.

The facility was expected to get $570 million in tax credits, the largest corporate tax incentive for a single project in Florida's history. The facility would have been a regional headquarters for the Imagineers, Disney's creative team. Analyst Len Testa told the South Florida Sun-Sentinel that Imagineers already had concerns about relocating from California.

Do you support Montana's TikTok ban?

Context: Montana becomes first state to ban public use of TikTok.

HIGHLIGHTED COMMENTS

Yes - Because a government has total access to data, I support the ban. Without a step of due process (like a court-issued warrant) there is no check on a government's ability to use data for whatever purposes they desire. As far as free speech concerns go, we have other laws which restrict personal freedom which also help provide safety for citizens. Think seat belts and helmets. Giving a foreign government unfettered access to our data is unwise.
