How is the GOP 2024 presidential primary race shaping up?

Source: Yahoo! News and YouGov

  1. Summary
Conservative Sen. Tim Scott (R-SC) has formally entered the GOP's presidential race. Speaking before a crowd of about 2,000 people, Scott noted his personal background as a black man who grew up in poverty and later found success. He described himself as the candidate "the far-left fears most," and said, "The truth of my life disrupts their lies!"

The growing primary field includes another prominent South Carolina politician: the state's former governor, Nikki Haley. An NBC News poll in April found both candidates polling at about 3%, far behind former President Donald Trump's commanding lead. South Carolina's early primary election date is considered influential. Despite the polls, Scott's campaign is starting off with $20 million, more than most other candidates.

Pundits frequently say a crowded primary field will benefit Trump, as it did in 2016. But Hill contributor Keith Naughton argues the primary race will likely shrink to a contest between Trump and Ron DeSantis, compared to 2016, when Trump had two major rivals (Ted Cruz and Marco Rubio).

Is there too much consolidation in the airline industry?

243 votes, 16 comments

Context: Judge rules to stop partnership between American Airlines and JetBlue in US Northeast.

HIGHLIGHTED COMMENTS

Yes - Consolidation is an issue in most industries, but in the case of airlines, the real problems start when budget airlines merge or partner with the top-tier airlines, or when airlines that have overlapping routes merge. Both situations are at issue in this context. One would think JetBlue is popular in the Northeast because it offers competitive prices compared to American/etc, so if they stop competing, yeah prices will go up and I don't see why customer service would be better.

Unsure - The airlines have 4 clear leading companies, most industries can't even say that. [...] Video cards, believe it or not Intel has a 71% market share (I assume this is because of cheap onboard graphics) with ...
