How is Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis trying to woo Republican primary voters?

Source: Bloomberg

  1. Summary
Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis officially announced his candidacy for the 2024 presidential election on Wednesday. DeSantis' announcement, which was delayed by technical issues, took place on Twitter Spaces in a conversation with Elon Musk. DeSantis argued that Republicans had underperformed under former President Trump.

DeSantis leaned on his achievements in Florida, where his cultural policies regularly gained national attention and where he oversaw Republican electoral success. In 2022 DeSantis redrew congressional maps, and in the midterms, the GOP flipped three Florida House seats and won historically blue counties, like Miami-Dade. It is a contrast from 2018, when he won the governor's race by less than a percentage point.

In total, DeSantis has raised $119 million, compared to the $86 million Trump reported before his indictment (after which donations spiked). Several large GOP donors are backing DeSantis, including a 2016 Trump campaign official and a super PAC with a $200 million campaign budget.

HIGHLIGHTED COMMENTS

No - Women have a right to full autonomy over their body just like every other human in America. I can not force my husband to give me a kidney and I should not be forced to give mine to a fetus. Roe was based on viability and that should've been the standard kept. It doesn't matter that you'll "help" me with my own tax dollars. The issue is my autonomy to make my own decisions with my own body. However, we should support families anyway and this would naturally reduce abortion and be pro-life.

Yes - I believe the argument used by many re: the right to bodily autonomy ignores the rights of an unborn child who is capable of living outside the womb. T...
