Issue 274 - Opening the Door of the Cybertruck

Cybertruck

Cybertruck spotted again 📷
In these photos, we can see a Model Y behind the Cybertruck for size comparisons.

Cybertruck at the Petersen with Franz 📹
Ryan Zohoury has released an excellent video that provides a detailed look at the vehicle. At the 6:55 mark, we can see Franz opening the doors using buttons located on the pillars above the door. At 8:19, we get a glimpse of the Cybertruck's user interface, and at 8:50, we can see the Cybertruck parked next to a Rivian.

FSD Beta 11.4.4 progress tracker
Twitter user edgecase411 has been maintaining a progress tracker for the various FSD Beta versions. Generally, we can observe numerous improvements across the last four versions. However, in a few areas, FSD Beta still receives rather low scores, such as avoiding driving in blind spots, executing U-turns, and behaving appropriately at yield signs.

Does my vehicle have HW4?
Our friends at Teslascope have developed an easy and safe method for determining whether your car has HW4. The main limitation is that the car needs to be linked to your account, which typically doesn't happen until the day of your delivery, but this is certainly more convenient than trying to figure it out during delivery. Teslascope doesn't store any of your data while checking this; all data is cleared as soon as you close your browser. If you are awaiting delivery of a new Model Y and are curious about whether it will come with HW4, I recommend trying this page as soon as the vehicle appears in your account.

Hardware Updates

Midnight Silver is the new free color for Model Y and Model 3
Initially, black was the complimentary color offered by Tesla, which was evident in the prevalence of black cars at Superchargers. Then Tesla switched the free color to white, resulting in a noticeable increase in white Teslas on the road. This week, Tesla altered the free color to Midnight Silver, and I anticipate a similar trend with this color. I suspect that Tesla will need to continue rotating the free color every few years to maintain diversity.

Software Updates

Multi-Camera View

The latest version of the Tesla App, 4.22.5, introduces a multi-camera view feature. Now, when monitoring your vehicle's surroundings through the app, you can observe multiple camera feeds simultaneously - a fantastic addition! Some Redditors have speculated about the prospect of Tesla creating a stitched view from their various cameras, which would certainly be a great improvement.

Tesla to add official support for third-party services and apps

There are numerous third-party services and apps for Tesla that take advantage of mimicking what the official app is doing. This makes it challenging for us, as owners, to track which apps we've granted access to, what features they are using, and how to revoke access from them. Tesla has recently added a "Third Party" tab to their security settings, hinting at an official method to support these services. Hopefully, this will allow for more precise control, sharing of more data, and overall, an improved owner experience.

Fleet Telemetry

Tesla has developed and open-sourced 'Fleet Telemetry,' a decentralized framework that allows customers to share data from their Tesla vehicles securely with authorized providers. This framework can be leveraged by fleet operators, such as rental companies, ride-sharing services like Uber, and others, to monitor the real-time status of their vehicle fleet.

🤓 What the Acronym
As a Tesla fan, I find myself sometimes having to remember what are all those acronyms, here is a list of the ones you can find in this issue.
  • FSD: Full Self-Driving
  • HW4: Hardware 4
