What would be the impact of actors joining Hollywood writers on strike?

Source: CBS News via Yahoo! News

  1. Summary
160,000 unionized actors, represented by the Screen Actors Guild-American Federation of Radio and Television Artists (SAG-AFTRA), agreed Wednesday to allow federal mediators into their negotiations with studios, represented by the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers (AMPTP). Contract deliberations were set to expire at midnight Wednesday, with few expecting a breakthrough.

SAG-AFTRA's biggest concerns are the residual pay model used in streaming services and the unrestrained use of artificial intelligence. Film and TV writers have shuttered 80% of Hollywood over similar issues. An actors' strike would be expected to shut down Hollywood completely, and impact the economies of New York City and Atlanta.

It is unclear when and how a double Hollywood strike would be resolved. Media conglomerates face high debt levels and streaming has not yet become as profitable as traditional TV. Additionally, AMPTP's major members may potentially not act in unison because of diverging interests.

Should Ukraine be invited to join NATO?

Context: NATO summit held in Lithuania.

HIGHLIGHTED COMMENTS

Yes - Had it been done five years ago there probably would not be a war in Ukraine today. Many NATO nations are helping Ukraine with weapons and intelligence anyway, so it's not as if NATO would get sucked into the fight and isn't now.

No - A look at history tells us why this is extremely counterproductive. Russia only tolerated past NATO expansion because it happened during a time of weakness (post-USSR collapse). Prominent US defense officials (Georg...
