Trevor McKendrick - Help progress, build an audience

Hi all, let’s have an amazing week.

Trevor

The fraudster Uri Geller gets a pass from the NYT because of… time? (article)

I hate everything about this article.

Uri was & is a liar… he would do normal magic tricks but tell his audiences they were powered by his psychic powers.

And for some reason, he’s now getting a pass because he sold himself well? Because he had a good publicist???

GTFO. You manipulated & lied to people. You did not achieve greatness. You don’t get a pass because you built a large audience.

Roots of Progress is starting a program to teach people to build their own blog audience (tweets)

“Why?

To keep progress going—in science, technology, and industry—we have to believe that it is is possible and desirable.

Today we lack a bold, ambitious vision for the future. It’s time for a new generation of intellectuals to help the world understand and appreciate progress.”

Run by Jason Crawford of course who is excellent.

Unlike Uri Geller, Jason is interested in truth.

Notes on Puzzles (article)

“There’s a direct correlation between how skilled you are as a chess player, and how much time you spend falsifying your ideas.”

My Personal Health Transformation and Journey (article)

Written by a friend… I had no idea he’d lost so much weight.

You’ll see he had a serious bike accident too, with a brain injury.

I knew that happened, but didn’t realize the true severity. It reminded me how little people know about other people’s lives, even when they ostensibly do know something!

Major congrats to Ken for all the continued work & discipline… it’s seriously impressive & worth admiration.

The Wager (book)

A book about a boat, not a bet!

Read this in a few days… follows an English sailors’ crew from 1740. They get shipwrecked in South America, break out into different factions, mutiny against their Captain, and then eventually make it back to England.

When they do they get tried for mutiny, and very different stories come out about who did what/when.

Great read!
