Why might former President Trump be indicted for a third time?

Source: Truth Social

  1. Summary
According to Donald Trump and sources familiar with the matter, the former president is the target of special counsel Jack Smith's investigation into attempts to overturn the 2020 election. Target letters, like the one given to Trump's attorneys, are typically given to notify someone they face an indictment. Trump and other conservative figures decried the news as evidence of political interference and Justice Department bias.

Smith's letter reportedly names three federal statutes, but does not outline how Trump allegedly broke them. Smith called upon dozens of witnesses to testify in recent weeks, with the subject matter mostly concerning attempts to have "false electors" cast electoral college votes, as well as the lead-up to the Jan. 6 capitol riot.

Trump has been indicted twice already, including once by Smith for allegedly mishandling classified files. Meanwhile, in Georgia selection is underway for a grand jury that will determine whether prosecutors have sufficient evidence to indict Trump for election interference.

Do you expect to vote for a third-party presidential candidate in 2024?

517 votes, 73 comments

Context: Speculation that Sen. Joe Manchin will launch third-party presidential run.

HIGHLIGHTED COMMENTS

No - I have voted for third-party candidates in the past but unfortunately the system, especially the electoral college, makes it frivolous on a presidential election. Local and state elections have a bit more chances for third-party candidates but even those are gerrymandered enough that they are longshots against the established parties.
