What new charges have been brought against former President Trump?

Source: Bloomberg

  1. Summary
Late last week Special Prosecutor Jack Smith brought additional charges against former President Trump in relation to the existing classified documents prosecution. With the three new criminal charges, prosecutors allege that Trump and his aides attempted to delete surveillance footage sought by a grand jury last year. The footage was not deleted.

Trump and two aides are each charged with two counts of obstructing justice, punishable by up to 20 years in prison, and Trump received another charge for retaining a classified document. Trump said Friday that the footage in question had been given to investigators, and repeated his previous assertions that the President Records Act gave him discretion to keep classified documents, which legal experts are generally skeptical of.

Reason Magazine contributor Jacob Sullum noted that prosecutors could potentially struggle to prove that Trump "willfully" kept defense information that could endanger the US, but that the case for the obstruction of justice charges is simpler and appears better-evidenced.

No - The central Illinois summers of my youth always had heat indexes of 110+ for many days each summer. I live in north Florida now and there are almost never heat indexes that hot in my area, even now. I survived it in the '90s as a kid playing outside without a/c in every building; my kids are surviving it now playing outside with a/c at their disposal.
