Ahrefs’ Digest #148: New Twitter algorithm, hiring an SEO consultant, and more

We released 25 updates this month alone. So, we’re running a giveaway in our community:

Let us know what unique Ahrefs use cases you swear by or use on a daily basis.

We’ll pick three winners. Each of them will get 500 free credits/month for one workspace spanning a total of three months.

All you need to do is to comment on the post in our community.

Now, back to the regular content in our newsletter.

Wake up, babe, new monetization method just dropped:

📰 News & updates

New SGE updates: (1) “SGE while browsing” is now available for the Google App and Chrome on desktop, (2) new capabilities to help you understand and debug generated code, and (3) the ability to hover over certain words to preview definitions and see related diagrams or images on the topics related to science, economics, history, and more.

Text-to-HTML ratio makes no sense for SEO: John Mueller said on Reddit, "It makes absolutely no sense at all for SEO." He added that you should "ignore any report that gives you a text:html ratio."

🔝 SEO

Do you need an SEO consultant?: My colleague, Chris Haines, previously worked agency-side for >10 years. He shares his tips on how to evaluate if you need an SEO consultant and the questions to ask when hiring one.

💻 Digital marketing

Greatest marketing blunders: A Reddit discussion on marketing disasters that still leave you wondering to this day. I wasn’t born when New Coke was released, but it’s definitely a classic example. What is yours?

New X algorithm (and actions to take): X (or the social network formerly known as Twitter) has released its new algorithm. These things will be getting pushed more: replies, videos, subscription content, and breaking news. Content will now also stay on the feed for 48 hours in a bid to push more valuable content to people.

Plain-text email is coming back again: Plain-text emails are fashionable again. If you’re thinking about adding them to your strategy, follow these tips.

Biggest blockers from growing: Kevin Espiritu informally mentored a few close friends on building niche blogs and YouTube channels. These are the blockers he observed that are keeping them from growing.

How to not get fooled by “hustle bros”: There are too many of them on Twitter, each with a “bigger accomplishment” than the others. Ask these questions to check their believability.

Till next time ;)
Cheers,
