How much do Americans expect to earn on average if they switch jobs?

Source: Bloomberg

  1. Summary
A survey of American workers released Monday by the Federal Reserve Bank of New York found that workers expect an annual salary of $67,416 upon being offered a job. The figure is a sharp increase from last year's $60,310. The expectations match the average wage offer respondents actually received: $69,475, compared to $60,764 last year. The survey uses a nationally representative sample of about 1,000 respondents.

The report found that the expected increase was "broad-based across age, education, and income groups" but "most pronounced for respondents above age 45 and for college graduates." The survey also found that the reservation wage, or the lowest salary respondents would accept to switch to a new job, hit a record of $78,645.

The findings come even as the number of respondents who recently changed jobs declined from last year. Some believe the survey shows that continued wage growth is also sustaining inflation. Fed research from last month indicates recent wage growth is not a major driver of inflation.

Should more social media companies weaken users' ability to block others?

292 votes, 30 comments

Context: Elon Musk says X will drop 'block' feature, except in private messages.

HIGHLIGHTED COMMENTS

No - If someone is going to choose to participate in social media knowing there is some risk of harassment of one form or another they should have the ability to block abusive users or anyone else that they don't want to be in any kind of interaction with. Removing that function or weakening it seems like yet another of Elon Musk's high-handed decisions to rile up the public. Personally, I opted out of Facebook after using it for 3 years because I was harassed.

Unsure - Well on the one hand social media brings out the worst in people and it's important to be able to block people who are continuously harassing you. Especially for women....

Yes - In my experience the block feature is used to make social media more of an echo chamber. If someone is harassing someone else then answer is more than likely better ...
