How are challenges to youth gender-affirming care bans faring in court?

Source: Bloomberg

  1. Summary
On Monday the 11th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals reinstated an Alabama law banning the use of puberty-blocking drugs, hormone treatment, and gender-affirming surgeries for minors. A district judge temporarily blocked the law last year, finding it discriminatory and likely unconstitutional. The three-judge appellate court found the lower court's ruling erroneous.

Alabama's law "reflects real, biological differences between males and females" and "equally restricts [treatments] for minors of both sexes," Judge Barbara Lagoa wrote. The 11th Circuit's ruling came one day after a district court blocked a similar Georgia law. The district court found the Georgia law discriminatory for placing "a special burden on transgender minors because their gender identity does not match their birth sex."

Georgia's appeal of the ruling will also be heard by the 11th Circuit. Most gender-affirming care bans have been blocked in courts so far, including by the 8th Circuit Court of Appeals. Conflicts between appellate courts make a Supreme Court case more likely, but the cases remain in their early stages.

HIGHLIGHTED COMMENTS

No - Improving one's financial position has been largely positive in contributing to being one of the greatest countries in the world. There is no issue with individuals having higher expectations. There is an issue with people thinking they deserve something they do not or are not willing to "earn" more. I believe the main reason for higher wages is a reflection of inflation - when costs go up exponentially, a corresponding impact on wages will occur. The labor market is also tight - not necessarily the number of workers, but a diminishing number of "qualified workers" which is also impacting wages.
