Why is a House committee probing the Georgia case against former President Trump?

  1. Summary
GOP Rep. Jim Jordan, who chairs the House Judiciary Committee, has announced an investigation into Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis. Willis indicted former President Trump last week on charges related to his attempt to overturn Georgia's 2020 presidential election results. The probe was announced on the same day that Trump surrendered in Georgia.

Jordan requests Willis turn over information on her office's communication with the US Department of Justice and other federal agencies. The DOJ filed its own election-related case against Trump earlier; Jordan questions whether Willis coordinated with federal prosecutors.

Jordan said that the investigation is necessary because of the "weighty federal interests at stake," saying that presidents may act differently in office if they fear political prosecution and that the case implicates the 2024 election. He also noted that Willis launched a campaign fundraising site four days before issuing the indictment. Jordan previously launched a similar probe into the Manhattan DA prosecuting Trump.

Yes - I learn a lot about people's character and intelligence by their speech. Vocabulary and word choices reflect reading, discussion, biases, and habits of thought. Clarity of syntax distinguish an ordered from a disordered mind and represents the ability to reason. The organization of a long response tells how effectively they will communicate complex ideas to the public. As for policies, I can find all that stuff in their websites and Ballotpedia.

No - I mean, I get it. It makes sense to use debates as a way to choose which candidate to support... but they all just say what they think they need to say to get elected...
