In 2011, I was stuck at the gate at Kansas City International Airport, waiting for a flight home for Thanksgiving. I decided to write down a list of things I believed at that moment. I was 24 years old.

”There are certain things I’ve come to believe hold true,” I wrote. ”I know that my beliefs will change. I know that I will change.”

The next Thanksgiving, I wrote down a new set of beliefs. I did it again the next Thanksgiving, and the next.

This year marks the 13th edition of my annual post. And with a new baby joining our family this year, this one’s a little different. (This is definitely the first year I’ve written this sentence: “Prepare for the worst. If you don’t, you will definitely get peed on.”)
