How Pinterest fixed their Activation rate
In the old onboarding flow, after the signup, Pinterest showed users the most popular site content.
A lot of people didn’t activate because, at the time, the most popular content was dominated by a few categories like home décor, women’s fashion, and wedding. If you don't like those categories, your activation chances are rather low.
Here's how Pinterest fixed it in their new onboarding flow:
1. Signup (get email for reactivation emails).
2. Select topics you’re interested in.
3. Show customized content on your home feed.
Besides increasing their activation rates it also improved retention.
