The Secret to Scaling An Acquisition: Finding Your Sweet Spot

I was working with an entrepreneur that I've done some coaching with who runs small agency doing $25k a month, and we had a deep dive about scale. I think he can take his business to about $2M a year, but not much higher without ripping his hair out and changing his margins.

It made me think, I really need to share this with the Nano Flips crew.

I've spent years banging my head against the wall, trying to force businesses to grow into the mid-seven or low eight-figure range.

But here's the surprising truth I've learned: not every business is meant to scale, and that's okay.

The Sweet Spot

Many small internet businesses find their groove at a few thousand, tens of thousands, or even hundreds of thousands of dollars per month. While some may have the potential to become nine-figure giants, many won't – and that's perfectly fine.

I've found that the sweet spot of maxed out on part time for many, or not truly going through growing pains is $100k-500k a year.

This realization has shaped my approach to entrepreneurship. It's why I in the past have built portfolios of businesses rather than putting all my efforts into scaling a single company often.

The Hidden Costs of Forced Scaling

Trying to force a business to grow often leads to increased expenses, higher operational costs, and added complexity. The secret is to understand the unique qualities of each business and find its optimal size.

DONT MAKE YOUR LIFE HARDER THAN IT NEEDS TO BE

Sometimes the answer is to delgate to an operator, make a little less on that business, and move on to build or buy another.

Celebrating My Birthday with an Exciting Announcement

Last week, I turned 36! I know...Im getting old.
