The Top 3 Reasons Products Fail on Amazon

Why do most people fail when they launch a product on Amazon?

After nearly 10 years of running EcomCrew, operating my own brands, and seeing thousands of other seller's products I've found there's basically three reasons products fail on Amazon:

1. Launching in an overly competitive category: Many sellers jump into categories that are saturated, resulting in a race to the bottom. I can’t tell you how many people have come to us after launching a weighted blanket, mason jar, or garden pot and failing to make a dime (while losing many dollars). It's the Jungle Scout paradox: once a product gets traction and shows up on Jungle Scout, it's too late.

2. Paying too much to get items into FBA: I've seen this countless times. A seller pays a bit too much in shipping costs, duties, or product sourcing, leaving them with no choice but to price their product too high or sell at a loss. 
   Paying a bit too much in just one cost normally doesn't sink a product but paying too much in many costs does. It's a case of profit margin death by a thousand paper cuts.

3. Facing swarms of low-cost competition (especially from Chinese sellers): This is arguably the worst. A seller identifies a decent product, does well for a few months, but then gets overwhelmed by low-cost competitors. This often happens when the product was easy to replicate, and the seller didn't take simple steps to make it more difficult to duplicate.
