Special webinar on extreme weather and rising home insurance
Dear Reader, The Conversation exists to keep you accurately informed about matters important to you. No matter where you live, you’ve seen the headlines about extreme weather in different parts of the country − or maybe every part of the country. And surely you’ve seen related news, such as the destruction caused by floods, fires and other natural disasters, the money spent to rebuild areas destroyed, and then there’s the uproar over insurance. Home insurance rates are rising quickly across the U.S., with rates up more than 34% on average since 2017. The reasons are evident in states such as Florida, where a single hurricane can cause over $100 billion in damage. Yet, insurance is rising fast in many other states too. We’re asking two of our expert authors, Andrew Hoffman and Melanie Gall, to explain the arithmetic behind these rising rates, what climate change has to do with it, and what may be coming in your future insurance bills. We invite you to join us for a webinar hosted by Jennifer Weeks, our Senior Environment and Cities Editor, in which she has a candid conversation with two experts on a topic we all need to know more about.
We look forward to seeing you on the 9th. ![]() Beth Daley
