Val Geisler - dips and spikes

Sometime in the middle of 2016 I wanted to start a podcast.

Having co-hosted a show the year before, I knew I loved the medium and I was collecting stories to share. I wanted to dig into how truly successful creatives got their start and what is actually took to build that business. I wanted to talk numbers, specifics of those early days, and dig into the challenges these "overnight successes" face(d) on a daily basis.

The idea for the show was clear and I had the support of my team... there was just one problem.

I had no clue how to handle the production side of a pod.

I knew I could concept the show, reach out to guests, conduct the interviews, record the intros/outros, and promote the episodes. That I could do. But actually getting the show edited so that it sounded good and showed up on iTunes correctly? Not my wheelhouse.

Luckily I met Craig Hewitt.

Craig and his team at PodcastMotor did what I couldn't.

They cut the tracks in with the music.

They edited for volume dips and spikes*.

They made it sound real profesh.

And (bless them) they uploaded the show to all the places.

I ❤️PodcastMotor.

So when I met Craig's podcasting partner Dave at MicroConf (nearly 2 years after producing our show together), I knew I wanted to reconnect.

Finally, Craig and I got to sit down and chat again for the Rogue Startups podcast. We talked customer success, how to run high-value customer interviews, and turning all of that voice-of-customer data into actionable takeaways for your brand.

I gave Craig the secret sauce for the work I do every day.

Because when someone does all of the heavy lifting for you on your podcast, you like to return the favor years later.

Listen in while I give Craig the game plan to conduct his own customer research without spending a dime.

-Val

* I don't know the real term for this in the world of sound engineering. Craig probably does.
