CXL - How do you launch an agency?
I have 7 updates for you this week. 1. On my mind “Consulting is the easiest business to start, basically 0 costs to get going. Many start an agency thinking they'll use the profits to later build a SaaS (or other scalable) business, but in reality never get there.
I started an agency in 2011 (now Speero), then later added e-learning (CXL) and a SaaS company (Wynter).
Based on my experience, this is how you can do it:
Go upmarket with your agency.
Being expensive has 2 major advantages: A) even a single client can pay for a lot of the expenses, and you don't need a huge amount of clients to make decent money B) you need a generous profit margin, so you could fund other things down the line.
Build an audience.
The hardest part of any business is getting customers. If you have a large email list, blog readership etc - launching any new venture becomes WAY easier as you have a base to sell to.
When starting a new venture, put dedicated people in charge.
You can't get a new strategic initiative going without it being someone's full-time job. Someone with authority, ideally one of the founders.
Build systems and build up your people.
If the (co-)founder starts working on the next business, the first one has to keep going and growing. If the business relies on the founder, it's not gonna happen.”
- Peep 2. New on the blog How to Use Your PPC Campaigns as A Prospecting Tool for SEO
PPC campaigns can be an effective way to drive traffic, but they can also help build a winning SEO strategy. Here’s how.
We surveyed our marketing colleagues and peers to find out. Here’s what we found. 3. Introducing R for marketers For the modern marketer, unlocking insights from large amounts of data is critical, but daunting. However, knowing how to quickly turn raw data into actionable insights can give you an edge.
That is why we’re excited to announce our new course, R for marketers, which will be launching March 16.
This course provides an in-depth introduction to R and the powerful benefits it provides to help you easily complete data analysis and visualization.
4. How can data fail you? Anyone can create data-backed suggestions but not all of those suggestions are created equal. Use this mental model to understand why 'sensitivity' is key and how to apply it.
5. Want to make more profit and improve your customer experience? Speero offers experimentation programs that drive profit and remarkable customer experiences. We do it by understanding your data, speaking to your customers, and coming up with creative test ideas based on consumer psychology and UX, to really move the needle.
6. The cosmic power of curiosity 7. CRO is dead. 💀 Long live CRO! 🚀 Few industries struggle with their identity quite as much as CRO. Watch me and Speero's MD, Ben Labay debate where CRO is heading and what CXO means for us all, in this live session today at 9am PST.
