What is it?

Charcuterie is the preparation of cooked meats so that they don’t need refrigeration.

These cured meats are then often assembled into a large spread, alongside cheeses, fruits and bread.

Charcuterie boards are especially popular in the winter holiday season. (December 2020’s search growth dwarfed that of previous years.)

Interestingly, unlike other once trending communal platters like grazing tables, search interest in charcuterie hasn’t been hit by COVID concerns.

What's next:
Charcuterie is part of the Traditional Food Movement meta trend.

But traditional food’s resurging popularity is not just for the sake of nostalgia or taste.

Consumers have begun to realize that these old school foods naturally fit into a healthy diet.

Other examples of this meta trend include Bone broth, kombucha, apple cider vinegar, sourdough and kefir.

Topic #2

Copysmith

Copysmith is an AI-powered copy tool.

Copysmith attracted 1500 users from a Product Hunt launch last October. And has seen consistent user growth since then. (Which led to a $10M seed round in May.)

GPT-3, the deep learning language model that powers Copysmith, has 175 billion parameters. It has been fed roughly 570GB of text data scraped from the Internet.

What's next:
Copysmith is just one of the first in what’s shaping up to be a huge wave of GPT-3 powered software, including:

Snazzy for Google ads, taglines, and landing page copy.

Persado, another copywriting tool to use GPT-3, has been adopted by JPMorgan Chase. They reported consistently better click through rates than human-produced ad copy, sometimes up to 450% higher.

OthersideAI for email. The GPT-3 powered app converts bullet point summaries into a professional email (in the user's writing style) to increase productivity.

Timemore

Timemore manufactures coffee grinders and other specialty coffee equipment. But what makes the China-based startup special is their manual grinder devices.

Unlike regular coffee grinders, Timemore’s models are all made of aluminum instead of plastic. And they have a fine tune adjustable wheel.

Which helps manual grinders match the quality of professional-grade machines.

Timemore is part of the “amateur barista” meta trend.

On average, Americans drink over 3 cups per day. Since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic, 46% of Americans report that they want to improve their home coffee brewing skills.

Which is why coffee equipment that allows the average person to brew fine coffee at home is taking off.

BlueWeave Consulting forecasts the coffee bean grinder market alone will reach $410.5M worldwide by 2026 (CAGR of 3.7%).

Other fast growing topics in this meta trend include smart coffee makers, milk steamers, coffee capsules, specialty coffee, K-Cafe and Wacaco.

Quantum dot display

Quantum dots enable the display of more than 1 billion colors. The improvement compared to LCD displays is as much as 50%.

The nanoparticles used in quantum dot displays range from 2 to 10 nanometers in size. In other words, even the larger “dots” measure just 0.000001 centimeters.

Consumer electronics currently account for 80% of the US quantum dot display market (Grand View Research).

And it’s a growing category: Samsung alone expects to sell 2 million quantum dot displays by 2025. (Only 4 million quantum dot displays were sold by all suppliers in 2018.)

On top of that, medical imaging applications are expected to account for a quarter of the market by 2022.

According to Markets and Markets, the quantum dot technology industry as a whole is estimated to rise to as high as $10.6B by 2025 (from $3.5B today). That represents a CAGR of almost 25%.

What's next:
Quantum dot displays are part of the “ultra-premium display” meta trend.

TV screens of 60 inches or more have the highest market share growth of any screen size (Statista).

4 in 5 new TVs released last year had a screen resolution of at least 4K.

And sales of gaming monitors with refresh rates of 100Hz or higher were over 11 million units this year. That’s up from 5.1 million in 2018.

The market for premium commercial screens is growing at a rapid rate. Currently worth $43.34B, the commercial display market is expected to grow to $61B by 2025 (Grand View Research). This is being driven by increasing demand for 4K and 8K products.

Other examples of this trend include Pixio (gaming monitors brand with 11x search growth), AMOLED (a variant of OLED technology) and smart TVs (368K searches per month and growing).
