Pulse oximeter

Pulse oximeters are devices that attach to the finger or ear to measure blood oxygen levels.

Demand surged with the onset of the pandemic. In fact, according to Quartz, sales of the devices increased by 5x in 2020.

The UK purchased 200k pulse oximeters as a pilot program for early detection of COVID and pneumonia symptoms last year. And Precedence Research estimates that the pulse oximeter market will reach $3.1B by 2027 (a 6.9% CAGR).

What's next:
Pulse oximeters are part of the at-home medical device meta trend. We’re seeing a growing number of medical devices being turned into consumer-facing products. Other examples of this trend include red light therapy, retinol serum, Drip Drop, and dermaplaning.

Topic #2

OXIO

OXIO is a white label telecom-as-a-service platform.

In other words, companies can use its API to create their own branded mobile carriers.

And it does so using blockchain technology, tokenizing data packages to turn mobile data into a tradeable digital asset.

Based in New York, OXIO finalized its $12M Series A last November.

What's next:
OXIO is part of the “everything on the blockchain” meta trend.

According to Deloitte, the blockchain is already being used for “robust enterprise ready solutions”. They also report that 40% of global enterprise companies plan to invest $5M into blockchain technology.

OXIO is also riding a wave of increased smartphone adoption in emerging markets. For example, 60% of the population of Mexico had smartphones last year — but that’s expected to grow to 70% by 2025.

Topic #3

Secretlab

Secretlab is a DTC brand of gaming chairs.

Priced from $419 - $539, Secretlab’s chairs hit the sweet spot of the gaming chair market: they’re higher quality than the $100 chairs that fill Amazon’s best sellers list.

But they’re still a lot cheaper than Herman Miller’s $1,445 high-end chair, the Aeron.

The Singapore-based startup has raised $750K to date.

What's next:
Secretlab is part of the “gear for gamers” meta trend.

There are an estimated 2.7 billion gamers worldwide. And there’s increasing demand for high-end gear designed specifically for gamers.

Other examples of gear for gamers include:

PowerA controllers, headsets and other accessories.

Elecwish gaming chairs, some of which vibrate and have built-in speakers.

Acer’s $13,999 Thronos Air gaming enclosure.

GG Energy, a Gatorade-like drink for gamers.

Gaming glasses, which block blue light to reduce eye strain.

Discord voice chat and messaging (and the Loritta Discord moderation bot).

Topic #4

Hand blender

Hand blenders, also known as “stick blenders” or “immersion blenders”, are used to blend ingredients without having to move them to another container.

(For example, they can be used to purée soup right in the pot.)

Many have a removable blender head that can be swapped for a whisk.

Because they’re handheld, they take up less space than full-sized countertop blenders.

What's next:
Due to their small size and multi-purpose capabilities, hand blenders are part of the “minimalist products” meta trend.

Search interest in minimalism has nearly doubled over the past decade.

As a result, we’re seeing increased interest in small, space-saving CPG products and electronic devices.

Other examples include Cubii under-desk elliptical trainers, miniature cooking sets, telescopic ladders, folding bikes and the Tonal home gym.
