Sidestep Amazon for 10% Affiliate Commissions

How could you make more money from your existing blog posts?

One of the easiest ways to increase earnings on affiliate sites is to link to higher-paying affiliate offers. Sometimes I will switch links out, and other times I will simply include two affiliate links.

For example, I had a niche site that was marketing a particular craft machine that cost between $200 - $500. I was mostly sending my traffic to Amazon to make purchases - and this was when that category was earning an 8% commission.

I wanted to increase earnings and I discovered that many of the brands I was promoting on Amazon had their own affiliate programs. This meant I could send my traffic directly to the retailer’s site to make the purchase.

For the most part, I continued to link to Amazon, but I would also include another link where shoppers could also buy on the brand’s site directly.

Instead of 8%, these sites were paying 10% commission and above.

It turned out that the visitors to my site were more willing to spend on the brand’s site than they were on Amazon. The site’s earnings ended up being more than two-thirds from programs other than Amazon.

And I was even happier that I’d made this move when Amazon did actually cut commission rates, which went down to 3% for the niche I’ve been talking about.

Have you experimented with other affiliate programs besides Amazon?

It doesn’t always work, and sometimes you have to test and try different programs before you find one that’s really good, but it can be a good way to increase earnings on your current posts.

We have many affiliate program round-ups on Niche Pursuits. If any of the following are related to your niche, make sure you check them out!

Amazon is good, but there might be better offers for your audience out there!

Along these same lines, we recently shared an interview with Sam Bass. For all those who missed it, Sam is matching website investors and operators.

It was an interesting podcast episode (hosted by Jared Bauman), especially for those interested in website investing.
