Pictures are worth 1000 words, but on Google, it feels like they're worth a thousand bucks.

Here are two simple tips for display ads:

1. Ensure you're getting the correct data from your Display campaigns for your Audience Report. Verify your traffic sources are added to your Google analytics and Google Ads account.

2. Include the word "Display" when setting up your display campaigns so you can create the Traffic Source Audience.

The data in Google Analytics will show you users that eventually converted through other channels and not through display ads.

2. Broad Match Keyword Strategy

Broad match keywords can be effective, yes, but it can also be a waste of money, specifically for low-converting traffic.

Instead, use this strategy to get the best outcome:

​3. YouTube Studio

Data is everything, so you need to ensure that you have connected your YouTube account with your ad account to get accurate data.

This way, you turn your YouTube account into an optimization tool for your display and video ads.

Here's what to look out for when you get the data:​

1. Analyze your spend and identity better opportunities to allocate funds

2. Build a custom audience around traffic sources to your website

3. Analyze the precise moment in your video that the user either dropped off or engaged.

Google prolly thinks it's to dumb down their platform so we can improve results, and they're not wrong.

This is welcomed news for anyone who has been frustrated with keyword matching, making it *more* simple.
​

They've combined identical broad and "phrase" keyword searches so that they will always match.
​

So, what exactly is the difference?

Let's learn by example:

In this scenario, let's say you own a Pizza store (never get high on your own supply) and have Google ads. You bid on two broad match keywords:

Pizza delivery

Pizza delivery near me

​

If someone was searching for 'pizza delivery near me.
​

Pre-Update: Both keywords would have been a match for this search

Post-Update: 'Pizza delivery near me' would be the preferred bid since it matches the search

They have also announced the importance of relevance when it comes to your ads too, in addition to ad rank. This is to calculate how relevant your ad/keywords are compared to the search at hand.

In this scenario, if you had two bids:

Broad match: food delivery

Phrase match: "quick pizza delivery."

​

If a user was searching for 'fast pizza delivery,' Google will choose the 'quick pizza delivery' as it is more relevant to the user's search for 'fast pizza delivery.'

​

Maybe the real path to happiness is pizza.
