Switch Weekly - Those GTA ports don't look so great
Plenty of Dread Web version | Unsubscribe Hey, issue #257 of Switch Weekly here, with this week's Nintendo round-up. I'm just back from a 1,000 mile round trip to the Highlands in Scotland, as such, I'm pretty wiped out from a day of driving, so please excuse the brevity here, and any errors or typos you may spot. 😅 Next week sees around 25 games coming to the Switch, including the Diamond & Pearl remakes. Big week for Pokemon fans. 🙂 🎮 Currently Playing — The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword REVIEW GTA Trilogy: Definitive Edition is a disappointment on Switch — Usually I'm a touch skeptical of pile-ons saying something is bad or buggy, and will often take a generous pinch of salt to whatever the Twitter hive-mind is saying, but it seems there's enough consensus here — the GTA ports on Switch are not great (and not much better on other platforms it seems). This is a real shame as I was super looking forward to playing through GTA III again. The game launching in this state is unusual and a touch bizzare for Rockstar, as they typically have such incredibly high standards. "Barring a miraculous future update, you probably shouldn’t buy GTA Trilogy: The Definitive Edition on Nintendo Switch". Jordan Middler // VGC The Nintendo Switch is back on top in the US after OLED launch —Nintendo’s very own Doug Bowser talks about Switch sales, Metroid numbers, supply issues, and N64 emulation troubles. Andrew Webster // The Verge The Switch is here to stay, says Nintendo boss Shuntaro Furukawa — "we believe a foundation for growth has been laid that exceeds what we previously considered to be a conventional hardware lifecycle" — Really pleased to hear him say this, and bodes well for the Switch as a platform for the forseeable future. Damien McFerran // Nintendo Life "The eShop is just way too slow" - Deku Deals creator on Nintendo's Switch storefront — Deku Deals is an excellent resource, and it's creator (and friend of the newsletter) Michael Fairley does a superb job running the show. Mitch Vogel // Nintendo Life REVIEW STAR WARS: Knights of the Old Republic — "may have lost some of its luster as the years have gone on, but the foundations of a well-written and enjoyable RPG haven’t aged a day". Mitch Vogel // Nintendo Life REVIEW Treasures of the Aegean — "an intriguing and audacious game. [..] Whilst some may be deterred by that lack of a clear objective, those who crave an adventure that gives you control should definitely check out this liberating trip to a lost, ancient world". Jaz Sagoo // COG Connected REVIEW A Boy And His Blob Neal Ronaghan // Nintendo World Report City-builder 'Airborne Kingdom' is a perfect fit for Switch Ari Notis // Kotaku DS & 3DS Games that deserve to be ported onto the Nintendo Switch Ted Hazell // Nintendo World Report Will Nintendo abandon the Switch concept for its next console?
