One Person Business - One Person Business #14: Tools4Wisdom
As a side project, I’m developing Substack Tools, a tool suite for both readers and writers that use Substack. Check it out, let me know what you think 🙂 Tools4Wisdom, created by Laszlo Nadler in 2012, sells a variety of planners for all sorts of occasions. This website, although seemingly simple, serves a very specific niche, with a very specific product. And this was exactly how Laszlo came up with the idea. As a project manager, he was a natural at planning, and he had a passion for planners. Deciding to sell his own planners, he then began designing them and making them on the printer in his home office. He soon had more than 100 printable designs and began testing them himself. After that, he experimented with different printing suppliers, until he found the one that, for him, got the best results with the planners. He then used Amazon to sell his product. Amazon allowed him to get a better ranking with Google, and he could also use Amazon’s fulfilment service, so he didn’t have to pack and ship orders himself. The first couple of years were of slow, but steady growth. The product started selling pretty quickly, but as with all things, it takes time to pick up the pace. Still, by 2015 Laszlo racked in $1M in revenue. And, from what I could gather, was on track to reach the $2M mark by 2016! A simple product can be a major hit if targeted at the right audience. So, what product can you think of that could follow this same path? If you would like to get into the book publishing space, I have a little secret to tell you: have you heard of Amazon KDP? Amazon’s Kindle Direct Publishing allows you to self-publish eBooks, paperbacks, and hardcover books for free. It’s quite simple to use, and all you need is to be able to design some sort of book. After that, you publish it, and Amazon takes care of the rest for you! You can learn more here. Your opinion means a lot to me: Awesome | Liked | 50/50 | Meh | Terrible Let me know what you think about this post, and what you’d be most interested in reading about - leave a comment and share your thoughts, I’ll 100% reply!
